ANGLIA REGION CHAIRMAN’S 100 MILE MEANDER - 2006

Many congratulations go out to our Region Trefoil Guild Chairman Jean Wheeler, together with many other Trefoil members and friends, who have joined her, on a sponsored walk of between 8-10 miles in every one of the 12 Counties of our Region - making a total of 100 miles covered in the past three weeks.

More than 200 people have joined Jean on her varied walks through the Region and most days she was blessed with fine weather. On one walk she was accompanied by a walker using a battery operated buggy, while a baby being carried in a rucksack and three small children joined her on other walks.

Among the many places that she has visited around the Region they included a walk round the town of Boston in Lincolnshire where she viewed the famous Stump. She climbed the hills of Essex South East and ended the day with a ploughman’s lunch at the Guide Campsite of Guideacres in Thundersley. (Who ever thought that Essex was flat!!!) She has walked close by to Chequers the PM’s Country retreat, visited the Marston Vale Forest Centre in Bedfordshire, walked along river banks, through cornfields and finally finished her 100 miles walk at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire which was the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill.

Jean and all the other walkers were helping to raise money for the Great Hautbois House Lift Fund. This building is the Anglia Region Girlguiding Training Centre near Norwich and members of the Trefoil Guild in the Region had challenged themselves to raise £35,000. This money is to help provide a lift for better access to the upper floors of the house so meeting the needs of future disabled and older visitors to the centre when renovations to the house begin very soon.

Together with many other sponsored events around the Region plus proceeds from this walk we hope to reach our target and so far over £15,000 has been raised with more coming in daily. If you too would like to help us reach this target of £35,000, then contributions, however large or small, can be made out to the ‘Trefoil Guild -Anglia’ and sent to our Region Trefoil Treasurer care of the Region Office at:
