Facts & Figures
Girlguiding Anglia is one of the nine Regions
and Countries of Girlguiding UK, the largest voluntary organization
for girls and young women in the UK.
Its mission is to:
Enable girls and young women
to fulfil their potential
and to take an active and responsible role in society
through its distinctive, stimulating and enjoyable programme of
activities
delivered by trained volunteer leaders.
Our Vision is to have sufficient
volunteer leaders to enable every girl and young woman
to have the opportunity to join Girlguiding UK.
Recent research examining a cross-section of
over 400 girls, aged 8 to 15, across the UK identified that girls
are learning fewer and fewer key life skills in school and at home,
but that current members of Girlguiding can effectively demonstrate
a higher level of such skills due to the programme it offers to
girls and young women from aged 5 to 25. This helps to build and
maintain their self-confidence and self-esteem.
Guiding motivates girls and young women and
provides the opportunity for them to develop essential, practical
life skills in a safe but lively environment
having fun at
the same time.
Although Girlguiding was started in 1910 by
the Baden-Powell family, it has continuously updated its programme
in order to remain relevant to today's girls and young women around
the world. It is part of part of the largest organisation for girls
and women in the world with over 10 million members worldwide. In
1970 the Guide Association regionalised some of its operation to
enable it to provide more effective support to counties and their
membership.
