Members with Special Needs
Girlguiding Anglia is an inclusive organisation which values and celebrates each others' differences. Our vision is of an organisation which supports all special needs whatever they are and to support those members - both girls and adults - with special needs - so that they can play a full and active part in our work and enjoy the activities we offer.
Girlguiding Anglia's Special Needs Team and County Advisers will seek to achieve its vision by working within the organisation at every level to ensure that those with special needs are fully integrated into our work and there are no barriers to their involvement.
The Girlguiding Anglia Buddy Award
This award is designed to recognise young women in guiding who act as buddies to their peers with special needs within units, at events or on camps and holidays. This very special award thanks our young members for volunteering to enable other members with a wide range of special needs to access all the amazing opportunities on offer to them.
To find out more about the new Girlguiding Anglia Buddy Award and how to nominate a young member please download the guidance document and nomination form here. Your application form will need to be countersigned by the Region Adviser for Members with Special Needs - please email your completed form to firstname.lastname@example.org for us to pass it on.
Members can also apply to the Girlguiding Fund for Members with Disabilities, which is designed to ensure that a disability should not be a barrier to participation in guiding. Grants can be made to individuals, units, Districts, Divisions, Counties or Countries/Regions from across the UK to fund support and projects such as covering the costs of a buddy at a camp or holiday, to provide training sessions to adult volunteers, to purchase specialist equipment or resources.
