Marketing & Communications Support
Shout out about guiding
Promoting what we do in guiding has important benefits to us in many areas. including recruitment, public perception and funding grants; therefore every member should think about publicising what they and their unit do and share the great benefits of guiding with as many people as possible. Remember, what we think of as 'just good guiding' can be amazing to others!
Your local PR team
Most Counties in the Region (and some Districts and Divisions) have dedicated Marketing & Communications Advisers, but the way in which they work and what their role covers differs. If you want to send a story to your local media about your unit's activities, please follow the local procedure or contact your local Commissioner for advice on how to proceed. Many Advisers will also be able to give you advice on other communications matters, such as websites and social media, branding and merchandise and fundraising.
If you have any general communications queries, please email the Communications Team based at the Anglia Region Office.
The Girlguiding brand
Girlguiding is the leading charity for girls and young women in the UK. We build girls' confidence and raise their aspirations. We give them the chance to discover their full potential and encourage them to be a powerful force for good. We give them a space to have fun.
We need to communicate what we do and why it's amazing, in a clear and effective way. Our corporate identity helps us to do this. The words, logos, colours and imagery that we use help people to recognise our charity and explain our work. Visit the Girlguiding website for more information on the brand and to access the Online Print Centre.
Press & Media
Your local PR team should be able to help you to publicise your activities and events in local press or media, and remember to ensure that you have the correct permissions for any photographs you send to the press. Remember to ensure that your articles show a modern, positive view of guiding with quotes from girls to bring the story to life!
If you find that regional or national newspapers, radio or TV are interested in a guiding story in your area, please contact the Region Marketing Adviser or Communications Team for support and advice or call the Girlguiding PR team on 020 7592 1733.
Here's the key steps to follow if you are contacted by the media yourself:
- Don't panic!
- Find out what they are looking for
- Don't be forced into making a comment without time to think about it first
- Take their name, number and deadline and tell them you will call back
- Contact your local PR team or Commissioner for advice and support. If you are unable to contact them and need help urgently, email the Region Marketing Adviser.
