Chris Smith

Trainer Qualification Coordinator

I am responsible for the administration of the ‘Becoming a Trainer Process’ in Anglia.  This involves arranging role visits and shadowing opportunities via County Advisers Responsible for Training (CARTS), checking reports, sending them to Girlguiding HQ for verification, and congratulating a leader when she has completed the process and becomes a prospective trainer.

With the region office, I also look after the prospective trainers by finding them a tutor to support them in completing the training qualification, dealing with any issues that may arise and requesting regular updates on progress throughout the qualification.  The process is very similar when dealing with a trainer wishing to add an extra module to their qualification.

I help to arrange the Region Trainers’ Day and an annual meeting for CARTS.

This role has taken me all over Anglia region, meeting leaders who wish to extend their commitment to Guiding and it gives me an amazing sense of purpose and a buzz to see these leaders growing as they build on their current knowledge and skills, knowing that I may have helped them a little bit on their journey.

Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn
