Parliament Week Launch

Saturday 2 November marks the start of UK Parliament Week 2019 and Girlguiding Anglia are pleased to continue to be one of the official partners. Units across the region are hosting activities to enable our young members the opportunity to learn about democracy, the UK Parliament and voting. Also, to understand how they can make a difference in their communities and have a voice for issues they are passionate about. Some units are even visiting Parliament. Issy, a Ranger at Baddow and Danbury Rangers tells us about her experience.

I was lucky enough to attend the Parliament Week launch along with other Guides and Rangers from the region – it was truly amazing! During the day we saw Rt Hon. John Burcow MP, former Speaker of the House of Commons, along with meeting and having a picture taken with Chief Guide, Amanda Medler.

When we arrived, we went to the Westminster Terrace and that is where it all happened. Many people came over to talk to us, they all had a real interest in Girlguiding and how good it was that we had the opportunity to come with them to an important launch. Along with those who had once been Guides and were interested in what we do now and how it has changed.

We also spoke to Chief Guide Amanda Medler. She was really we excited to come over and talk to us and get a photo – which was lovely, as we were the only Guides there. Near the end John Burcow gave a speech about Youth Parliament and how successful it had been, along with many other things.

Being a member of Girlguiding means I can use my voice to speak about my opinion and being part of UK Parliament Week enables me to engage with MPs so they can hear what I have to say.

I can voice my opinion and not feel like others are judging me for what I think or say.
