Hundreds of Brownies come together for Cosmic 2026
After 2 years of planning, Cosmic finally arrived, and what a weekend it was!
Across 3 PGL centres in Suffolk, Lincolnshire and Surrey, over 600 Brownies came together for Girlguiding Anglia’s first ever multiple PGL site Brownie takeover. Over 3 days, girls took on exciting challenges, made new friends and created memories that will last long after the weekend ended.
From the moment girls arrived on Friday evening, there was a real sense of excitement in the air. Throughout the weekend, Brownies tackled activities including zip wires, giant swings, climbing challenges and archery, with many trying activities for the very first time.
For some girls, Cosmic was an opportunity to push themselves beyond what they though they could achieve. Leaders shared stories of Brownies conquering fears, building confidence and discovering what they were capable of.
One leader reflected on a Brownie who was nervous about being away from home when she first arrived. By the end of the weekend, she was already asking when she could come back.
The event also created opportunities for friendships to form across units, divisions and counties.
As one leader put it: “We had 4 girls, from 3 different units who attended 4 different schools become solid friends. Seeing that friendship blossom reminded me what guiding is about.”
Behind the scenes, Cosmic was delivered by an incredible team of volunteers, staff and leaders who worked tirelessly to make the event a success. Across the 3 centres, 19 volunteers helped support activities, crafts, entertainment and the smooth running of the weekend.
The event was also supported by Girlguiding Anglia’s travel bursary scheme, with 28 units receiving financial support to help them attend and ensure as many girls as possible could take part.
Karen Johnson, chief commissioner of Girlguiding Anglia said:
“Cosmic was an event 2 years in the planning and wow what a weekend it was. I was super proud as chief commissioner to see over 600 Brownies and their leaders enjoying a weekend full of adventure, overcoming fears, confidence building, friendship and fun.
This is guiding at its best, providing all of the experiences and more. This is why we do it, to provide these opportunities and for the happy faces, if slightly tired faces at the end of the day. There’s nothing quite like the happy chatter and laughing at a guiding event.
