This month Ann Crome, Anglia’s Lead Volunteer for Growth and Insight, signposts the support available to leaders, commissioners, and local recruitment volunteers in recruiting more volunteers. All resources are open to being used by any member as needed and created by volunteers and staff across the 12 counties of Anglia using tried and tested recruitment methods.

Bringing you to us resource pack

‘Bring a friend to guides night’ is a renowned way of gaining new girls to join your unit. The aim of this activity pack is to do the same but with adults, so we can recruit our long sought-after unit helpers, administrators, treasurers, and leaders! The idea is to hold an evening where each girl invites an adult to experience Girlguiding. The adult could be anyone; a mother, friend, aunt, cousin… Let us know about your successes and our thanks to Girlguiding Bedfordshire for this idea.

Editable resources

On the Anglia website, you can find editable recruitment resources (printable posters and social media images) and the national recruitment resources from earlier this year. These are free to use, can have local information added as needed, and will be updated regularly so make sure to check back to keep your recruitment fresh and inviting!

PR stand resources

Sometimes leaders have the opportunity to go to recruitment fairs or may wish to have a stand with activities at a local event. These are great opportunities to raise the profile of Girlguiding in a local area and can really help when asking for more leaders in the future. Anglia provides updated resources and giveaway items each year to counties for these stands. Contact your local county office or commissioner to access these resources and let us know if you would benefit from any additional items!

By leaders for leaders

Did you know – every county in Girlguiding Anglia has a volunteer responsible for membership growth and retention? As well as supporting leaders in their own county they meet together regularly and help inform Anglia’s overall strategy and action planning. You can contact your membership growth coordinator through the communication section of GO, your county office, or your local commissioner.

If there are any other resources or support you would like, or to feedback on the resources in general please contact Ann Crome through the contact us page.

Girlguiding Anglia Lead Volunteer for Growth and Insight, Ann Crome, has spent many years recruiting young members in her home county of Bedfordshire. Here she shares some of the resources available from Girlguiding Anglia to help other leaders also to recruit young members for their units. Many of the ideas and resources have been adapted from those used in counties across our region and we welcome ideas for additional materials.

Recruitment ideas

If you are in the position of having spaces available to girls, so want to recruit, we have collected tried and tested ideas from leaders across the Anglia region.

Social Media

Posting on local community groups can be a very successful way to recruit. Girlguiding Anglia has created editable images you can use as well as the national recruitment campaign resources being able to be downloaded and used. Again they are available for each section.
