Commissioner training opportunities

Date: June 1st 19:30 - June 1st 21:00

Venue: Various

06/01/2022 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm Various

Do you want to develop your skills and knowledge as a commissioner? Look for training opportunities here.

Commissioners have an important role to play and we know it can be challenging at times and knowing where to find support can make all the difference. Other commissioners and trainers are full of helpful support and knowledge so this page is dedicated to signposting you to the training opportunities available. Most sessions are currently held virtually although some are returning face to face. You’ll have the chance to learn from and with other commissioners and hopefully be inspired.

You asked, we listened

Following the success of our commissioner induction sessions trial, we will be holding more. Commissioner induction sessions are for commissioners new to their role, there are two different sessions which can be attended in any order. We’ll be holding more this year so watch this page for more details when they are available.

  • Commissioner induction session 1 – next session due in June
  • Commissioner induction session 2 – Wednesday 23 March, 7:30pm – 9pm
  • Further sessions will be coming in June and September depending on trainer availability so if you can’t do March’s session, you have further chances this year.

Commissioner mentor Air n Share

This is for commissioner mentors or any adult member interested in becoming one in Girlguiding Anglia. We’ve picked four key topics to discuss, chosen to encourage conversation and maximize information that is shared. It’s a virtual session taking place 7:30pm – 9pm on Wednesday 20 April. For more information, take a look at the event page or share it with your mentor. Bookings close at 9am on Monday 18 April.

Commissioner calls

In Girlguiding’s review of the commissioner learning journey, members identified a need to ‘drop in’ to discussions with key HQ staff and volunteers to ask questions about key topics. The idea of regular commissioner calls was born. These offer a chance to share good practice or challenges and work together to find solutions. A list of the calls happening this year can be found on the Girlguiding website. If you’d like to suggest a topic for discussion, you can email events@girlguiding.org.uk.

Level 4 Safe Space

All commissioners and commissioner mentors require Safe Space Level 4. This needs renewing every three years. Girlguiding will contact you if you require this Level of Safe Space and you can take a look on the learning platform for opportunities. If you’d like to contact them about this training, you can do so on leadership@girlguiding.org.uk. If you are still struggling to find a place in a suitable time frame, do contact events@girlguiding-anglia.org.uk and we will support you to find a session or apply for an extension.

Still hungry for more opportunities?

Girlguiding’s new learning platform has a range of opportunities for commissioners. It’s worth sharing with members in your area as there is a wide range of subjects relevant to all roles. Commissioners might be interested in:

  • Risky business for commissioners
  • Doing our best – recognising and celebrating quality in our units
  • Being a commissioner elearning

Region and county calendar

Finally, one further place to look for learning opportunities is in our region and county calendar. You’ll find it under member support or by clicking on the link. Not all opportunities are available outside of the organising county but if you see a session you like the sound of, click on the link to go to the event page for more information. You might be able to go on a waiting list or ask your county to deliver a similar session.

If you need support in your role as a commissioner, please do speak to your mentor or another commissioner. Any questions about training sessions can be directed to Events@girlguiding-anglia.org.uk and any other enquiries to member.support@girlguiding-anglia.org.uk.

Thank you for all you do for Girlguiding and the difference you make to so many girls and young women’s lives.
