Outdoor Activities Bursary

Financial support available for gaining qualifications in outdoor activities such as walking, archery or climbing.

What is the fund for?

The Outdoor Activities Bursary is available for any adult member of Girlguiding Anglia who is working towards, and being assessed for, a qualification in the out-of-doors. There is an increasing awareness of the need for suitably-qualified instructors in outdoor activities. In offering these grants, Girlguiding Anglia hopes to enable more people in the region to train for, and gain, nationally-recognised outdoor qualifications.

Criteria for applying:

To check if you are eligible to apply for this fund, all you have to do is answer ‘yes’ to the following questions:

  • Are you a member of Girlguiding Anglia who is over 18?
  • Are you working towards, and being assessed for, a qualification in the out-of-doors?
  • Will you use your qualification within guiding for the benefit of its members?
  • Is the amount you are applying for up to, and no more than, 50% of course fees?

If you are seeking funding from another guiding level (ie national, county, division or district), you need to state this on the form, together with the value of grants being sought.

Grants will not be considered retrospectively and so applications must be submitted in good time so they can be considered before the training commences.

Who can apply?

Adult members over the age of 18.

How to apply:

To apply email Finance@girlguiding-anglia.org.uk with two recommendations– one from your county outdoor activity adviser and one from another person holding a guiding role, for example district/division commissioner. The recommendations should indicate why the application should be considered and any special reasons why the applicant should be given financial support.

We cannot accept applications for:

  • transport costs
  • food and board costs, unless part of the course fees.
