Cassie Laughlin

Volunteer engagement officer

I’ve worked for Girlguiding Anglia since 2015 in a variety of roles. My current role as volunteer engagement officer started in July 2023 and will run until March 2025. If you’ve read anything about the Uniformed Youth Fund project, the DCMS (Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport) project or the waiting list project, that’s me! It’s my job to increase our spaces for Guides and Rangers. We’ll do this by opening new units or increasing capacity in existing units. Each month I write a blog about the project – something about our overall progress or focus on 1 particular success. My favourite blog so far is interviewing Viv, Claire and Tracy who opened 1st Thedwastre Guides.

As a girl I was a Brownie, Guide and Ranger although we were members of the Senior Section at the time. I’ve volunteered as an adult for 15 years now so guiding has really shaped my life. I’m now a trainer which means I get to meet loads of different volunteers. I find there is always something to learn from meeting new people and hopefully they learn from me too.

When I’m not at work or volunteering with Girlguiding, I like to do a bit of sewing. I don’t consider myself very creative but I am good at following instructions! My camp blanket is not up to date but I have made some beautiful Christmas stockings for my niece and nephew!
